On July 24, 2020, the “Chinese as a Foreign Language Program and Its Development Forum” hosted by Confucius Institute of Suan Dusit University at Suphanburi (CISDUS), Thailand, was grandly held on the Bangkok campus of Suan Dusit University. More than 30 Chinese educational experts and scholars from Thailand’s Chulalongkorn University, Mae Fah Luang University, Bansomdej Chaopraya Rajabhat University and Suan Dusit University gathered to discuss issues related to the further development of the Chinese language education in Thailand.
Vice President of Suan Dusit University, Pornchanit Kaew-nate, said in her welcoming speech that the experts participating in this forum are all important representatives of the Chinese language education community in Thailand, so it is hoped to take this opportunity to help further develop this foreign language program, to provide new ideas and to make more contributions to its development in lines with the times and social changes.
At the meeting, Pornchanit Kaew-nate, Lyu You, Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at Bansomdej Chaopraya Rajabhat University, and Meng Xianjun, Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at Mae Fah Luang University, respectively addressed the forum with such topics as “Chinese Language and Emerging Vocational Educations in the Digital Age”, “A Few Thoughts on How Confucius Institutes Provide Chinese Services to Their Universities”, and “Introduction to the Development of Confucius Institute at Mae Fah Luang University”. Those speeches have carefully illustrated how the Chinese language and emerging vocational educations could be combined and what problems or experiences Confucius Institutes in Thailand could have in their development, clearly showing the latest thinking and research results of the participating experts on the development of Chinese language education in Thailand. Miao Rong, Chinese Director of Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University, said in her concluding speech that the forum had provided new ideas for the development of Chinese teachers, Chinese education and related programs in Thailand’s universities, and also an exchange for the Confucius Institutes in Thailand and a platform for sharing resources and experiences, having successfully played an important role in promoting Chinese education and cultural exchange.
In a word, the successful holding of this forum has enhanced the developmental level of the CISDUS, promoted the exchange and mutual advancement of the Chinese programs in Thai universities, and played a leading role in improving the research level on the development of a Chinese language education program in Thailand, so as to make certain contribution to improving the quality and efficiency of the international Chinese education.
